HMR provide plenty of vegetarian options. They also have several options for allergy sufferers and label their products so people can easily identify ingredients. On the other hand, Nutrisystem offer a vegetarian-specific plan and all of their plans except Uniquely Yours Plus have a version for diabetics. They also have dairy and gluten-free meals.
Nutrisystem provides four basic meal plans, each in a variety for men or women. These are Basic, Core, Uniquely Yours and Uniquely Yours. There is also a separate Vegetarian plan. Three of the plans, Basic, Core and Uniquely Yours are available in a special Diabetes-specific variety. All of these include snacks, breakfasts, lunches and dinners.
HMR provide a few different plans, which mostly depend on the amount of support required by the customer. Two of their plans are “at home” plans while one also offers medical supervision and peer support. For this last one, the price depends on your location. The two plans you can follow at home are the Healthy Solutions plan and the Healthy Shakes Plan.

Although they try to use mostly good, healthy ingredients, HMR products, particularly their shakes, contain artificial flavorings and colors. They also sometimes use soy protein isolate and corn syrup. On the other hand, Nutrisystem pride themselves on using ingredients without artificial flavors, colors or sweeteners.
Additionally, they don’t use Partially Hydrogenated Oils or High Fructose Corn Syrup in their food. Without question, Nutrisystem are more committed to enabling customers to enjoy products without the worry of putting nasty additives into their bodies.
HMR is a low-calorie diet, but your calorie intake depends on which plan you select. With the In-Clinic Healthy Solutions plan, your calorie intake is only 500-800 calories per day, and cannot be done without medical supervision. The Healthy Solutions and Healthy Shakes plans which people can follow at home allow a maximum of 1400 calories per day.
HMR products range between 120 and 280 calories per serving. Customers can organise how and when they eat, as long as they stay within these guidelines.
With Nutrisystem, the idea is to eat small portions frequently, and the maximum calorie count on their products is 300. Although the playing field is even here, our personal choice for this category is HMR for providing two different calorie-based plans.

While Nutrisystem provides all meals and shakes, HMR provides shakes, snacks, entrees and some soups. They allow you to supplement these with your own ideas. As a result, there is a smaller variety of products to choose from than with Nutrisystem. They do, however, have some exciting options within their entrees and their modest selection includes tantalising flavors from different world kitchens.
However, as Nutrisystem provides a wider variety of tasty options from classic American favourites to cuisines such as Mexican and Asian, they are our winner in this category.
