Type of Meals

Both services offer a lot of variety, which is a very important factor when one is paying for his meal kits.

Terra’s Kitchen offers a couple of annual and seasonal favorites that stick around. And one of the best things here is the fact that a customer can repeat the dishes that he enjoys the most. Furthermore, some meals rotate each week, which is quite nice. Here are some of their best meals:

  • Caramelized Onion Pasta, Kale, and Bacon
  • Cheesesteak Sliders
  • Vegetarian Rainbow Kabobs
  • Tilapia Salad with Apples and Arugula
  • Gluten-Free Turkey Taco Bowl
  • Spicy Honey Lime Chicken

Sun Basket, on the other hand, rotates their menus and tries not to repeat the dishes. Therefore, they provide a lot more variety than Terra’s Kitchen. Here are some of their best recipes:

  • Coconut Crusted Trout with Mint and Smashed Cucumbers
  • Roasted Red Pepper Salsa with Black Bean Tacos and Kale
  • Nectarine Masala Chutney with Sweet Potato Fritters
  • Chicken with Lemon, Capers, and Green Olives
  • Grilled Shrimp with Fattoush Salad

The menus of both companies are equally impressive, with both of them offering an excellent variety of dishes. However, he must give points to Sun Basket in this category – their meals are, in simple terms, something else.

The Quality of the Ingredients

When we compare these two meal kit services, we can see that the quality and freshness of their ingredients is at the same level. Both of them have a focus on the farm-to-table principle, sourcing the products from the farmers and delivering them fresh to your doorstep.

For that matter, there are no winners in this category – both companies source their products from handpicked suppliers and have a focus on reducing a negative impact on the environment.

The Recipes

When it comes to recipes, we found the ones provided by Sun Basket to be a bit more complex. The results, however, were always satisfactory and amazing.

The recipes provided by Terra’s Kitchen, on the other hand, are slightly easier to prepare – most of the preparation work is already done. For example, the sweet potatoes arrive peeled and cut, so you don’t have to worry about cutting them into chunks. With Terra’s Kitchen, one doesn’t have to add a lot of ingredients, but can still expect the dishes to be very flavorful and satisfying.

Those that want easy-to-prepare recipes should go for Terra’s Kitchen, while those requiring something a bit more complex should opt for Sun Basket.

Special Diets

As far as we’re concerned, the special diets are among concerns that should be addressed by all meal kit services. Whether you’re a vegetarian or just want to have a gluten-free diet, the amount of choices on today’s market is pretty surprising.

Sun Basket offers a couple of plans designed for dietary concerns. Some of those are the Vegetarian Plan, the Gluten-Free Plan, the Paleo Plan, and others. These are quite impressive – we’ve tried them all and were quite surprised with how delicious they were.

Terra’s Kitchen offers similar meals, but they don’t provide plans for specific dietary concerns. Instead, one has to choose from a broad spectrum of dishes and select those that suit their preferences. We should also mention that, during specific weeks, the company doesn’t offer a huge selection, which is among the few pitfalls of their system.

For that matter, we give this category to Sun Basket – they have a better consistency with plans for many different dietary concerns. With them, a customer is able to try out a new recipe each week.

The Packaging

The packaging of both companies is quite impressive. The meals sent by Terra’s Kitchen come in a beautiful vessel, with ice packs on every tray – they supply the food with necessary cooling from all sides. Everything is beautifully organized and well-sealed, and the shipping is free.

The meals sent by sun basket, on the other hand, don’t come in flashy vessels but still sport an impressive packaging. The company uses compost-ready liners inside the boxes, as well as paper bags and plastics to separate the recipes and ingredients.

As you can already guess, this makes recycling a lot more convenient, and that’s always a big plus in our book. We should also mention that nothing leaks and that everything arrives extremely cold and fresh.

We have to give this category to Terra’s Kitchen. Not only is their shipping completely free, but also features eco-friendly vessels that can be used for more than 100 times before the replacement.

The Cost

When it comes to meal kit services, the cost is one of the most significant factors. Every person has a budget, and nobody wants to go broke while trying to order food. Even though the cost is a factor for everyone, one also has to think about what he’ll be getting for the price. There’s a myriad of affordable meal delivery services to choose from, but are their cheap recipes and ingredients good enough for you?If we take a look at the cost only, here’s how it goes for these two services:

Sun Basket

There are several menu options to choose from, with all of them starting at $69 per week (2 people) with three meals (around $11 per one serving). We should also mention that they charge $6 after the customer’s second order.

Terra's Basket

A customer can start with two servings and gradually move up to four per meal. There are no flat rates here – meals range from $10 to $18 per one serving.

In this category, we consider the Sun Basket to be a winner. Their pricing is not only more affordable, but also a lot easier to understand. Terra’s Kitchen may have meals as affordable as $10 per one serving, but most of the really good recipes cost $12 and more.
